Tesher is an Indian-Canadian rapper, singer-songwriter, and producer. He is best known for his singles “Young Shahrukh” and “Jalebi Baby”, both released in 2020.
Personal Life
Tesher was born in 1992 and his birthplace is Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.
His greatest musical influences are Anitta, Drake, and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
Career
Tesher began uploading his remixes as a teenager to YouTube and SoundCloud.
Tesher interest in music began when he accompanied his father, a videographer use to take Indian wedding functions and DJ events.
He was influenced by his Punjabi heritage as well as Western hip-hop music, later he began to fuse Bollywood and hip-hop songs together and create mashups from a young age.
In 2016, he produced the official Bhangra Mix of ”Kar Gayi Chull” from the Bollywood movie ”Kapoor and Sons” for Sony Music India.
During the lockdown period, his remix ”Old Town Road vs Ramta Jogi” became viral on tiktok as a sound accompanying a milk drinking challenge.
In February 2020, Tesher released ”Young Shahrukh” an original rap song written, produced, and performed by him with a beat of ‘Bole Chudiyan’ song of Bollywood film Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.
The song went viral on social media platforms and was picked up by Sony Music India in May 2020.
Later the song peaked at number one on the United Kingdom’s Asian Music Chart on the week of July 10, 2020, and at number four on ”Billboard’s Top Triller Global” chart on the week of July 25, 2020.
The same year, he released ”Yummy Jalebi” which was a remix of Justin Bieber’s “Yummy” with Jalebi Bai.
The song went viral on social media platforms and peaked at number one on the UK Asian Music Chart for seven consecutive weeks.
In 2021, Tesher signed a worldwide deal with Capitol Records in partnership with Universal Music India.
On July 13, 2021, Tesher released a remix of “Jalebi Baby” with American singer Jason Derulo and following the release of the remix, the track achieved international success, reaching the top five of the World Digital Song Sales chart.
